A metallic material is a metal that has the properties of a metal and is actually used as a material. Commonly distributed metal materials are classified according to type, property, and application, and assigned names and symbols according to JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards). When selecting a metal material, it is necessary to select the most suitable material in terms of strength, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, workability, cost, etc. according to the usage environment of the product and available processing methods. If the usage does not have special conditions, it is common to select and use metal materials that meet the purpose by referring to JIS standards. The types of metal materials can be broadly classified into "iron and steel materials", which are mainly composed of iron, and "non-ferrous metal materials", which are mainly composed of metals other than iron.
