What is a Chloroethane (C₂H₅Cl)?

Chloroethane (C₂H₅Cl), also known as monochloroethane, is an organohalogen compound in which one hydrogen atom of ethane is replaced with a chlorine atom. It is a colorless, flammable gas at room temperature with a slightly sweet odor. Chloroethane was once used as a refrigerant, anesthetic, and solvent, but today it is primarily used as an intermediate in chemical synthesis and as a topical anesthetic spray for pain relief. Exposure to high concentrations can affect the central nervous system, causing dizziness, nausea, and headaches.
