What is a Carbon monoxide (CO) ?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless toxic gas produced by the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing materials. It is especially dangerous in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces. CO binds strongly to hemoglobin in the blood, preventing it from carrying oxygen, which can cause poisoning even at low concentrations. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and in high doses, it can be fatal.

In industry, carbon monoxide is also used as a reducing agent and as a feedstock in organic chemical synthesis.
