What is a Lithium carbonate (Li₂CO₃) ?
Lithium carbonate (Li₂CO₃) is a white, crystalline or powdery inorganic compound containing lithium, an alkali metal. It is most widely used in the production of lithium-ion batteries, especially for electric vehicles and portable electronics such as mobile phones. Lithium carbonate is also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, acting as a mood stabilizer in psychiatric medicine. In addition to these uses, lithium carbonate is important in the production of glass, ceramics, and has applications in aerospace industries. Although lithium carbonate is relatively stable compared to other lithium salts, it is not highly soluble in water and should be handled with caution.
