What is a Lithium perchlorate (LiClO₄)?
Lithium perchlorate (LiClO₄) is a colorless or white crystalline compound that is highly soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It is a strong oxidizer and is primarily used as an electrolyte in lithium batteries (especially lithium primary and lithium-air batteries). It is also utilized in organic synthesis, as a combustion enhancer, and in propellants.
While relatively stable, lithium perchlorate can react explosively with combustible materials. Therefore, it should be handled and stored with care. It is hygroscopic in its dry form and should be stored in airtight containers to avoid moisture absorption. Due to its strong oxidizing properties, it should be kept away from reducing agents and flammable substances.
