What is a Calcium peroxide (CaO₂)?

Calcium peroxide (CaO₂) is a pale yellow or white powder that reacts with water to release oxygen (O₂) and form calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂). Because of this, it is widely used as an oxygen-releasing compound and oxidizing agent.

Its main applications include use as a soil conditioner in agriculture, in wastewater treatment for deodorization and purification, as well as for oxygen supply and seed germination promotion. In the food industry, it is sometimes used as a bleaching agent or preservative. Due to its ability to slowly release oxygen, it is also useful in water treatment and environmental remediation.
