What is a Sodium Silicate (Na₂SiO₃)?
Sodium silicate, commonly known as water glass, is an inorganic compound composed of sodium oxide and silica. It typically appears as a colorless to white powder or a glass-like solid and is soluble in water, forming a strongly alkaline solution. It has a wide range of industrial applications, including as an adhesive, fireproofing agent, concrete hardener, detergent component, bleaching aid, and water treatment chemical. It is also used in soil stabilization and construction-related processes.
Due to its high alkalinity, it can cause skin and eye irritation, so protective equipment is necessary when handling it.
