What is a Styrene?
Styrene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C8H8 (or C6H5CH=CH2), appearing as a colorless liquid with a sweet odor. It consists of a benzene ring attached to a vinyl group, making it a key monomer in the production of polystyrene (PS). As a petroleum-based chemical, styrene is widely used in the manufacturing of thermoplastic resins, synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers, paints, and adhesives. It is also a crucial raw material in the production of various copolymers such as ABS resin (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and SBR rubber (styrene-butadiene rubber).
