What is a Spiramycin?

Spiramycin is a macrolide antibiotic primarily effective against gram-positive bacteria. It is produced by the actinomycete Streptomyces ambofaciens and works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Spiramycin is commonly used to treat respiratory infections, skin infections, and dental infections, and is considered safe for patients who are allergic to penicillin. It is also regarded as relatively safe during pregnancy and is used to treat toxoplasmosis in pregnant women. Due to concerns over antibiotic resistance, its use is generally limited to necessary cases.
