What is a Triethylene Glycol (TEG)?
Triethylene Glycol (TEG) is a colorless, odorless, and viscous liquid with the chemical formula C₆H₁₄O₄. It is a derivative of ethylene glycol and mixes well with water and alcohol. Its main industrial application is as a dehydrating agent in natural gas processing, where it removes water vapor. TEG is also used as a solvent, plasticizer, and in the formulation of inks, resins, and adhesives. Due to its low volatility and mild antibacterial properties, it is occasionally used in air humidifiers and some personal care products. Although considered to have low toxicity, proper handling is recommended in large-scale operations.
