What is a Phenoxyethanol?
Phenoxyethanol is an aromatic alcohol with the chemical formula C₈H₁₀O₂, synthesized by reacting ethylene glycol with phenol. It is a colorless, slightly viscous liquid with a mild floral scent, soluble in water, alcohols, and glycols. This compound is widely used as a preservative in cosmetics, skincare products, shampoos, lotions, and baby care items. It offers antimicrobial protection while being less irritating than other preservatives, making it a popular alternative to parabens.
