What is a Phthalimide?

Phthalimide, with the chemical formula C₆H₄(CO)₂NH, is an organic compound that consists of a benzene ring bonded with two carbonyl groups (CO) and one amide group (NH). It is commonly used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, especially in the production of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Phthalimide is typically synthesized by reacting phthalic acid with ammonia (or ammonium salts) and has a stable chemical structure.
