What is a Molybdic acid?
Molybdic acid is a compound typically represented by the formula H₂MoO₄ or its hydrated form H₂MoO₄·H₂O, with molybdenum in its +6 oxidation state. It appears as a white or pale yellow powder, slightly soluble in water, and exhibits acidic properties. It is primarily used in analytical chemistry and as a precursor for producing molybdenum salts. It also serves roles in corrosion inhibitors and pigment production. Upon strong heating, it decomposes into molybdenum trioxide (MoO₃). Due to its potential health risks via inhalation or skin contact, it must be handled with appropriate protective equipment in a safe environment.
