What is a Sodium molybdate?
Sodium molybdate is an inorganic salt composed of sodium ions (Na⁺) and molybdate ions (MoO₄²⁻), with the chemical formula Na₂MoO₄ or Na₂MoO₄·2H₂O in its hydrated form. It is a white crystalline powder that is highly soluble in water and exhibits basic properties. It is used as a corrosion inhibitor, metal treatment agent, catalyst, analytical reagent, and as a source of molybdenum in fertilizers. It plays a significant role in phosphate analysis through the molybdenum blue reaction. Although its toxicity is relatively low, proper handling is required due to potential health effects from high or prolonged exposure.
