What is a Cesium Iodide?

Cesium iodide, with the chemical formula CsI, is an inorganic compound consisting of cesium (Cs⁺) and iodide (I⁻) ions. It is a white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water and is commonly used in radiation detection and medical applications. Cesium iodide is particularly employed as a scintillator for radiation detection devices, such as radiation therapy equipment and diagnostic imaging devices. It is also used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for backlighting and in high-energy physics experiments. Due to its strong hygroscopic nature, cesium iodide should be stored in a dry environment to prevent it from absorbing moisture.
