What is a Silver Iodide?
Silver iodide (chemical formula: AgI) is an inorganic compound composed of silver and iodine. It typically forms yellow or white crystals and is highly insoluble, with almost no solubility in water, but it can dissolve in ammonia solutions or strong acids. Silver iodide is known for its chemical and physical properties and has several industrial applications.
Notably, it is used in meteorology as a seeding agent for cloud seeding and to induce ice formation in clouds to stimulate precipitation. In photography, silver iodide has been used as a light-sensitive material and played a critical role in traditional film photography. In recent years, it has also found uses in electronic devices and environmental protection technologies.
