What is a Hydrogen Iodide?
Hydrogen iodide (chemical formula: HI) is an inorganic compound composed of hydrogen and iodine, and it is highly acidic. It is a colorless gas at room temperature but condenses into a colorless or pale yellow liquid when cooled. It is highly soluble in water, where it forms hydroiodic acid (HI) solution.
Hydrogen iodide plays an important role in chemical reactions, particularly in the synthesis of iodides, as well as in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is also used as a source of iodine.
