What is a Sodium persulfate (Na₂S₂O₈)?

Sodium persulfate (Na₂S₂O₈) is an inorganic compound that appears as a white crystalline powder. It is a powerful oxidizing agent widely used in various industrial applications. Common uses include initiators for polymerization reactions, etching of metals and semiconductor substrates, cleaning of electronic parts, bleaching of textiles and paper, and as an oxidant for soil and groundwater remediation.

It is soluble in water and releases oxygen when heated or in contact with metals, making it effective for oxidation reactions. However, it poses fire or explosion risks when mixed with flammable or organic substances. While relatively low in toxicity, it can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system, so proper protective equipment such as gloves and goggles is recommended. Store in a sealed container, away from moisture and sunlight.
