What is a Lithium oxide (Li₂O)?

Lithium oxide (Li₂O) is an inorganic compound composed of lithium and oxygen, appearing as a white crystalline solid. It is highly alkaline and reacts vigorously with water to form lithium hydroxide, releasing heat. This property makes it valuable in the glass and ceramics industry as a flux, improving meltability and clarity at high temperatures.
