What is a Iron nitrate?
Iron nitrate is an inorganic compound formed from iron and nitric acid, commonly found in ferrous (Fe(NO₃)₂) and ferric (Fe(NO₃)₃) forms. Ferric nitrate (Iron(III) nitrate) is the most common, appearing as yellow to reddish-brown crystals. It is highly water-soluble and deliquescent, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. It is used in industries as a catalyst, oxidizing agent, pigment precursor, and in electronics manufacturing. In laboratories, it serves as a source of iron ions. Under acidic conditions, it acts as a strong oxidizer.
It is irritating to skin and eyes, so proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and goggles should be used. Inhalation of dust or vapors can affect the respiratory system, so good ventilation is necessary. As it may harm aquatic life, waste must be disposed of according to environmental regulations.
