What is a Ethyl acetate (C₄H₈O₂)?
Ethyl acetate (C₄H₈O₂) is a colorless, volatile organic compound with a sweet, fruity odor. It is produced by the esterification of ethanol and acetic acid. This ester is widely used as a solvent in adhesives, paints, inks, perfumes, and nail polish due to its excellent volatility and solvency. It is also used in pharmaceutical manufacturing and as a flavoring agent in food products. While ethyl acetate is relatively low in toxicity, prolonged exposure through inhalation or skin contact may cause headaches, nausea, or irritation.
Proper ventilation and protective equipment are recommended when handling. As it is highly flammable, care must be taken to keep it away from open flames or high heat sources.
