What is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) battery?
A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) battery is a system designed to provide temporary power to connected devices during power outages or when there are fluctuations in the voltage supply. UPS systems are commonly used to protect equipment such as computers, network devices, communication systems, and servers, ensuring that devices can safely shut down in the event of a power failure. The main function of a UPS battery is to immediately supply power when the regular power supply is interrupted, preventing potential damage to the equipment due to the loss of power. There are three main types of UPS systems:
✅ Offline UPS (Standby UPS):
This type provides power from the commercial supply under normal conditions and switches to battery power when the main supply fails. It is the simplest and most economical option.
✅ Line-Interactive UPS:
This type adjusts automatically to voltage fluctuations and switches to battery power during an outage. It provides higher stability compared to the offline type.
✅ Online UPS:
This type continuously supplies power from the battery, unaffected by the commercial power supply. While it is the most expensive, it offers the highest stability and protection.
UPS batteries come in various types, including lithium-ion batteries and lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used in newer models due to their longer lifespan and compact size, while lead-acid batteries are still widely used due to their lower cost. UPS systems play a crucial role in preventing sudden shutdowns of equipment, protecting against data loss, hardware damage, and business interruptions during power failures.
