What is a Collector device?
A collector device is a system used to gather or deliver electrical power, typically employed in systems like railways or renewable energy setups. It collects current from an external power source, often through contact with wires (overhead lines) or electrodes installed on the ground. This allows vehicles or systems in motion to receive the necessary power for operation. In railway systems, collector devices are commonly implemented with pantographs, which are mounted on the roofs of trains, or with sliding devices that connect to overhead lines to draw power. These devices are crucial for electric locomotives to run efficiently, providing a stable and consistent power supply.
In renewable energy systems, collector devices are also used in solar power or wind power setups to gather the electricity produced and supply it to where it is needed.
