What is a Clean room?
A cleanroom is a specially designed environment that strictly controls airborne particles and contaminants. It is commonly used in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food processing, and precision engineering. Cleanroom cleanliness is classified by the number of airborne particles, based on ISO standards. For instance, ISO Class 1 is the highest cleanliness level, with extremely low particle counts.
Cleanrooms use specialized filters, such as HEPA or ULPA filters, to remove particles from the air, and the HVAC system maintains consistent temperature and humidity. Personnel wear cleanroom suits, gloves, and masks, and all items brought into the cleanroom are carefully managed to minimize contamination. This controlled environment enhances product quality and safety, reduces defects, and helps prevent contamination.
Application of Clean room
Examples of Cleanroom Applications:
1.Semiconductor Manufacturing: In semiconductor production, extremely clean environments are essential for creating microcircuits on chips. Small particles or contaminants can significantly impact product performance and reliability, so ISO Class 1 or Class 5 cleanrooms are commonly used.
2.Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: For the production of vaccines and medications, strict control is required to prevent contaminants or bacteria from entering the products, as this could directly affect human health. Cleanrooms in pharmaceutical plants typically operate under ISO Class 7–8 to maintain air particle counts and temperature/humidity controls that meet quality standards.
3.Biotechnology Research: In biotechnology processes such as cell culture or genetic engineering, preventing bacterial or viral contamination is crucial. Cleanrooms classified as ISO Class 5–7 are used to ensure both safety and precision in experiments and production.
