What is a Down converter?

A down converter is a device that converts a high frequency signal to a lower frequency. For example, you can convert microwaves to millimeter waves so that you can use conventional millimeter-wave measurement equipment. Alternatively, a down converter converts high resolution video to lower resolution video. A down converter enables 4K resolution broadcasts to be displayed on conventional terrestrial digital broadcast receivers.
