What is a Optical modulator?
An optical modulator is a device used for high-speed modulation by converting an electrical signal into an optical signal and outputting it. Also known as an E/O converter (O/E converter when vice versa), it is mainly used as part of the optical transmission device in fiber optic communications. In conventional systems, the signal used to carry the information of the modulated signal has always been an electrical signal. However, in order to realize optical communication using ultra-high-speed, low-loss, large-capacity optical fibers, it is generally necessary to use an electrical signal to modulate the light source in some way and output it as an optical signal. The device that fulfills this role is an optical modulator.
