A SAW filter is a filter that can selectively extract electrical signals with specific frequencies. It is an acronym for "Surface Acoustic Wave Filter". By filtering mechanical vibrations using surface waves traveling through piezoelectric elements, it is possible to create steep frequency dependent characteristics, allowing specific frequency components to pass through or be blocked. A surface wave is a wave that propagates on the surface of a medium, and is characterized by a rapid amplitude attenuation from the surface to the inside.
