What is a Filter tip?

A filter tip is a pipette tip with a filter inside. A pipette is an instrument for measuring liquid samples. A pipette tip is the tip that attaches to the pipette body and actually picks up the liquid, and is usually disposable. The filter tip prevents sample liquid or vapor from entering the pipette body when too much liquid is sucked up, preventing "cross-contamination" where two types of samples are mixed. The filter allows air to pass through but not liquids, so liquids can be aspirated and discharged without impairing pipette functionality.
