What is a Discriminator?

A discriminator is a circuit or device that cuts the noise portion of an electrical signal. In Japanese, it is also called a frequency discriminator. You can also convert frequency to amplitude and output it. FM radio broadcasting is based on this application. Plotting it on a two-dimensional plane with the input frequency on the axis and the output voltage on the vertical axis shows an S-shaped characteristic.
