What is a Shunt resistor?

A shunt resistor is a low-resistance component used for measuring specific electric currents. Typically, a shunt resistor is connected in series within a circuit, and the voltage drop that occurs when current flows through it is measured. The magnitude of the voltage drop allows for the calculation of the current flowing through the circuit. Shunt resistors have very low resistance values, minimizing the impact on circuit operation while still enabling current measurement.
