What is a Mainspring?

A spiral spring is a belt-shaped spring material wound in a spiral shape, and it acts as a spring by applying an external force to one end of the spring. Since it can store a large amount of energy while requiring relatively little space, it is widely used as a power source to move various things, from familiar items such as clocks to large structures.
