What is a Vicat Tester / HDT?
The Vicat test is a method used to measure the softening temperature of materials. In this test, a needle with a specific load is pressed into a sample material, and the temperature at which the material begins to soften and the needle starts to penetrate is recorded. During the test, the sample is heated at a constant rate, and the temperature at which the needle sinks into the material is noted. This test is widely used to evaluate the thermal properties of materials such as plastics and resins, providing crucial data on their heat resistance and processing temperatures. The Vicat test is often conducted according to standards such as ISO 306, helping to determine material performance and suitability for various applications.
