What is a Withstanding voltage tester / Dielectric Breakdown Tester?
A dielectric strength tester (also known as an insulation breakdown tester) is a device used to verify the dielectric properties of electrical equipment or insulating materials. This instrument applies a specified high voltage to the product and measures how much voltage the insulation can withstand before it breaks down or fails. It is primarily used for testing the insulation quality of power equipment, wires, cables, transformers, capacitors, switches, and even household appliances.
The dielectric strength tester applies excessive voltage to determine whether the product experiences electrical breakdown. This test ensures that the product can be safely used and will withstand appropriate voltage levels without failure. This is especially critical for products involving high-voltage applications.
The tester typically includes modes for applying either AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) high voltage, with settings tailored to the voltage requirements of the product being tested. Additionally, the system is equipped with monitoring capabilities to detect signs of insulation failure during testing and issue warnings when breakdown occurs.
Application of Withstanding voltage tester / Dielectric Breakdown Tester
✅Power Equipment Insulation Test
High-voltage is applied to test the insulation performance of power transformers and motors, ensuring they can withstand voltages beyond their rated capacity.
✅Wire and Cable Insulation Test
Tests the insulation of wires and cables by applying specified high voltages to ensure they can conduct electricity safely without breakdown.
✅Transformer and Capacitor Testing
High voltage is applied to test whether transformers and capacitors can endure overvoltage conditions and meet performance standards.
✅Household Appliance Insulation Check
Household electrical appliances are tested for insulation properties to ensure safety during use.
