What is a Current sensor?
A current sensor is a device used to measure the magnitude of electrical current flowing in a circuit. It can measure both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). There are contact and non-contact types, with Hall-effect sensors being common for non-contact measurements, allowing current detection without breaking the conductor. Contact types often use shunt resistors for measurement. Current sensors find applications in power management, motor control, battery monitoring, and overcurrent protection systems. Their compact and high-precision designs make them widely used in smart appliances and industrial machinery.
Application of Current sensor
✅ Power Monitoring
Used in smart meters to measure power consumption in homes and factories, enhancing energy efficiency.
✅ Electric Motor Control
Ensures precise control of motor torque and speed through current measurement.
✅ Battery Management Systems (BMS)
Monitors real-time charge and discharge of batteries, preventing overcharging or over-discharging.
✅ Overcurrent Protection
Detects abnormal currents in household circuit breakers or industrial power supplies to safeguard circuits.
