What is a Leak sensor?
A leak sensor is a sensor that detects leakage of liquids such as chemical solutions and water. When a leak occurs in a chemical storage tank used in production equipment, etc. Used as a safety measure to prevent leakage. In recent years, improvements in detection technology have made it possible to handle liquids containing various chemical substances, including the establishment of detection methods using fiber sensors in addition to conventional detection methods that utilize the conductivity of liquids.
Liquid leakage sensors are broadly divided into contact detection methods, which detect using the conductivity of liquids, and photoelectric detection methods, which use reflection and transmission, such as optical fiber sensors.
1. Conductive type
A conductive liquid leak sensor detects a liquid leak by passing an electric current through the liquid when it comes into contact with the two electrodes of the sensor. This method uses the conductivity of the liquid to detect the resistance between electrodes.
Principle: When liquid comes into contact between the electrodes, a conductive path is formed, reducing resistance and allowing current to flow, thereby detecting leaks.
Features: This sensor has a linear shape, which allows for long-distance detection, wide-area detection, and even detection by wrapping it around an object.
2. Photoelectric type
A photoelectric leakage sensor is a method that projects light from a light source onto an object through an optical fiber and detects the amount of light that is reflected or transmitted. The sensor has a built-in light emitting/receiving mechanism such as infrared rays and LEDs, and when liquid touches the detection part, the reflectance and transmittance of the light changes, and the amount of light decreases, thereby detecting a leak.
Application of Leak sensor
Devices and equipment caused by liquid leakage in production equipment and machinery piping and piping joints that use liquids such as chemicals and pure water, liquid storage tanks and liquid delivery pumps, dew condensation on cooling piping, draft chambers, etc. It is used for early detection of liquid leakage by installing a liquid leakage sensor around these to prevent damage to and human damage. In addition, liquid leakage sensors are used in various applications such as oil leak detection for hydraulic cylinders and other hydraulic drive equipment used in production equipment and equipment in explosion-proof areas, and water leakage and liquid leakage detection under the floor of facilities.
