What is a Resolver?

A resolver is a type of encoder that detects physical quantities such as speed and displacement, and is a device for measuring the rotation angle. There are devices that detect the rotation angle based on various principles, but in particular, the one that detects rotation by reading the change in the magnetic field by electromagnetic induction is called a resolver. The rotation information read by the resolver is output as an electrical signal and can be fed back to the device such as the motor that is the source of the rotation.

Application of Resolver

In industrial machines, etc., it is necessary to detect the rotation speed of the motor and give feedback in order to perform accurate operation using the servo motor. Resolvers are used in combination for high-precision positioning using such servo motors. In addition, by applying it to the control of the driving motor of electric vehicles and electric power steering, it is possible to control the motor according to the driving condition. This has made it possible to drive with even less power consumption, and is being actively used in automobiles.
