What is a Optical sensor?
An optical sensor is a device that collects visible light, such as sunlight, and infrared rays, which have longer wavelengths than visible light, through a lens and converts light information into image data. Light has wavelengths, and the wavelength band that humans can directly see with their eyes is very limited, from 380 nm to 780 nm. Infrared light is light with a wavelength band higher than 780 nm and cannot be detected by humans. However, by using an optical sensor, infrared rays can be detected and stored as electronic data. This means that it can be used without problems even in dark areas where there is no visible light.
Application of Optical sensor
The main applications of optical sensors include light receiving devices that acquire image data for digital cameras, security cameras, artificial satellites, and automatic doors. The simplest optical sensor is the human sensor used in things like automatic doors. The principle is to detect only whether the light hits the person and open or close the door if the light is blocked by the person. On the other hand, the optical sensors used in digital cameras and other devices are extremely sophisticated, converting light into electrical signals and acquiring data. In addition, security cameras are assumed to be used in the dark, and can be said to be an application example that makes use of the advantage of being able to detect infrared rays.
