What is a Infrared sensor?
An infrared sensor is a device that detects infrared (IR) radiation emitted from objects. Infrared radiation is invisible to the human eye but is related to the temperature of the object, making it useful for applications such as temperature measurement, distance measurement, and motion detection. Infrared sensors are especially valuable when optical measurements are required, or detection in darkness is needed. These sensors can perform non-contact measurements, reducing the risk of mechanical wear and tear, and are known for their long lifespan.
Application of Infrared sensor
✅ Temperature Measurement
Infrared sensors are used to measure the surface temperature of objects without contact. For example, they are useful for monitoring the temperature of metal parts or machinery in real-time on production lines.
✅ Motion Detection
Sensors use infrared radiation to detect human or object movement. For example, they are employed in security systems to detect intruders.
✅ Proximity Sensing
Used for detecting objects at close range. For instance, they are incorporated into robotic obstacle avoidance systems to prevent contact with objects.
✅ Gas Leak Detection
Infrared sensors are utilized to detect gas leaks by taking advantage of the specific absorption characteristics of certain gas molecules in the infrared spectrum. They are widely used in safety monitoring at petrochemical plants and gas pipelines.
