What is a Fiber amplifier?

A fiber amplifier (optical fiber amplifier) is an amplifier used to amplify optical signals. When propagating an optical signal in an optical fiber, the optical signal is attenuated by transmission or distribution, so it has the role of compensating for that optical signal. In the past, to amplify optical signals, the method was to electrically amplify them with semiconductor ICs, etc., convert them back to light, and retransmit them. Fiber amplifiers, on the other hand, are widely used in the field of optical communications because they can directly amplify the optical signal itself within the optical fiber.
