What is a Laser scanner?

A laser scanner is a measuring device that acquires spatial position information of an object by reciprocating light with the object by the laser emitted from the scanner and determining the distance and angle from there. Laser scanners can be broadly classified into three types: "terrestrial 3D lasers", "aviation lasers", and "MMS (mobile mapping system)". It is one of the measurement techniques that can acquire 3D data in a very short time because it can acquire a large amount of point cloud data safely and non-prismically.

Application of Laser scanner

The main use cases are building management such as equipment and plant maintenance, documentation of the current situation map at the construction site, and CAD model creation. In addition to this, it is used in various situations such as topographical measurement, displacement investigation of existing structures in tunnels such as civil engineering and maintenance, and accurate recording method of accident sites and crime sites in crime investigations. It is also used for surface shape measurement projected by 3D project mapping, and is now being used in familiar environments.
