What is a Current transformer?

A current transformer is a device that changes the magnitude of electric current. It is often abbreviated as CT.

Application of Current transformer

The purpose of using current transformers is circuit isolation and current conversion. Circuit insulation is used for the purpose of isolating the control circuit from the main circuit where a large current flows. Even for monitoring the current of a small pump of about 5A, a current transformer is used to monitor the current for the purpose of isolating the circuit.
