What is a Dry transformer?

A dry type transformer is a transformer that does not use insulating oil. The term dry type is associated with the method of cooling the transformer, meaning that it does not use coolant or oil. Instead of using oil for cooling like an oil-immersed transformer, the coil is coated with resin and cooled by air. Heat from the iron core and windings is dissipated directly from the coils exposed to the air, not through oil. Dry type transformers have many advantages. First, no cooling material is used, so there is no risk of coolant replacement or leakage.
