What is a Buck regulator?
A step-down regulator is a voltage conversion method for stepping down the input voltage in an electric circuit and outputting it. When the power supply voltage is too high to operate the electric circuit as it is, a step-down regulator can be used to lower the voltage to be supplied, enabling safe operation without damaging the circuit.
Application of Buck regulator
This regulator is used when you want to adjust the voltage value supplied to the electric circuit. For example, the power supplied from an outlet at home is AC 100V, and it is connected to various electric appliances. However, since the semiconductor elements in the circuits of electrical appliances mainly operate on direct current, it is necessary to convert the AC 100V (alternating current) supplied from the outlet to DC (direct current). Furthermore, if an FPGA or CPU is mounted in the circuit, it is necessary to supply a voltage of 5V or 3.3V, so it is necessary to step down from 100V. Buck regulators are used in such cases.
