What is a Microcomputer?

A microcomputer is an electronic component that incorporates a set of basic computer functions in a single IC chip. Short for "microcontroller" or "microcomputer," it looks like Figure 1. Inside the microcomputer, there is a semiconductor called a CPU that performs arithmetic processing, and storage devices such as ROM/RAM. A device that incorporates a microcomputer into an electronic device is also called an embedded device.
