What is a Synchronous motor?

A synchronous motor (SM) is a motor in which there is no slippage between the rotating magnetic field and the rotor. Since there is no need to consider the amount of slip, it can be differentiated from normal AC motors. It is classified as one of the induction motors. In addition, a synchronous motor requires a DC power supply to the field side (rotor) in addition to the AC power supply.
