What is a OPC server?
An application that communicates with various equipment in a factory to control equipment and exchange data is called an OPC server. OPC is an abbreviation for OLE for Process Control, which defines an industrial communication standard that is widely adopted for process control. Microsoft and the equipment control manufacturer jointly standardized in 1996, and the OPC Foundation is currently promoting the standardization. OPC has strengthened the relationship between suppliers and users, expanding the range of automation application options for user control of equipment. In addition, automated suppliers are becoming more aware of the benefits of adopting OPC for their applications.
Application of OPC server
There are machine tools, PLCs, various control devices, etc. in the factory, and innumerable devices are operating. Manufacturers of these devices provide OPC server software to access and communicate with their control devices. On the other hand, it incorporates the client functions of OPC into various applications for production planning and management. As a result, both device manufacturers and users will be able to perform data communication determined by the OPC standard, acquire and write data, and control devices without having to comply with individual specifications for each product.
