What is a Mercury lamp?
Mercury lamps are a type of discharge lamp that generates light through electrical discharge. By applying a high voltage to a glass tube filled with mercury vapor, the mercury is excited and emits ultraviolet light. This ultraviolet light then strikes phosphor coatings inside the tube, producing visible light. Mercury lamps are known for their high light output and long lifespan, making them popular for street lighting, factory lighting, and floodlights. However, due to environmental concerns and the toxicity of mercury, there has been a shift towards replacing mercury lamps with LED lamps in recent years.
