What is a Signal generator?

A signal generator is a device that generates various electrical signal waveforms. The generated signal is used as a test signal in any device. The signals that can be generated are wide-ranging, from radio frequency (RF) standard signals including digital modulation for wireless communication, audio signals, to those that generate pulse waves.

Application of Signal generator

Signal generators are used for the purpose of conducting simulations and actual measurement evaluations using simulated signals prior to actual testing of DUTs such as devices under test and high-frequency components for communication, and for debugging adjustments. A signal generator is not a device used for measurement purposes, as it only has the function of generating a reference signal waveform for testing. This point is different from measuring devices such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, etc., which are used to evaluate target physical quantities.
