What is a AC voltmeter?
An AC voltmeter is a device used to measure the AC voltage supplied from an outlet or AC power supply. There are two types of AC voltmeters, analog testers and digital testers. Since neither the analog tester nor the digital tester can directly measure the AC voltage, the AC current is once converted to a DC current before measurement. Since the internal resistance of the digital tester is high, the loss of current flowing in the analog tester can be minimized. It also has the advantage of high accuracy and small measurement error because the voltage is displayed as a number. The analog tester is generally inferior to the former tester, but the current voltage is displayed on the meter, so intuitive measurement can be performed.
Application of AC voltmeter
AC voltage systems are used to inspect electronic devices that use alternating current. If the audio equipment fails, the AC voltage system is used if the cause of the failure is due to an electronic circuit that uses AC voltage. Since there is a unique voltage between each component of the electronic circuit, it is possible to clarify the detailed part of the failure of the electronic circuit by using the AC voltage system. AC voltmeters are also used to monitor electronic devices that use AC voltage. For high-speed transportation such as the Shinkansen, it is necessary to maintain high voltage from the viewpoint of maintaining high speed. Alternating current is faster than green current and is advantageous for maintaining high voltage. Therefore, an AC voltmeter is used in the cockpit of the Shinkansen.
