What is a Limit switch?
A limit switch is a switch that is actuated by the movement of a mechanical part or the presence of an object. As part of the control system, it is used to detect objects passing through safety interlocks and specific positions, and to control automatic start/stop, limit the range of motion of the machine, position detection, etc. A limit switch is a microswitch embedded in a metal or resin case in order to protect it from external forces, water, oil, gas, dust, etc., in the operating environment. The movement of the actuator (mechanical detection part) turns the contact on and off. Actuators include plunger type (direct acting type), rotary lever, fork lock lever, flexible rod, etc., and there are various shapes depending on the application and usage environment.
